Doing some research on some mutual fund companies, I’m still weighing the costs/benefits of putting money into these funds rather than investing independently with an online brokerage.

Its hard for me to justify all the front-load fee’s that are associated with getting into a fund family. A-shares front loading fees can be as high as 5.75%. Tracking lifetime performances of popular funds such as MFS MIT Fund ($MITTX) or American Funds ICA fund ($AIVSX), an investor should expect an average return of 8-12% which decent but also having to pay management fees (0.4-0.8%) and full-service brokerage fees ($40-$80 annual fee + commissions).

On the other hand, while not for everyone, online brokerages offer much lower fees to maintain an account online. Opening up a self-directed IRA is usually free (possible rollover fees) and while most online brokerages offer proprietary funds, a savvy investor would be better off allocating their funds in a basket of equities, bonds, and CDs. I feel like this would be the best scenario for planning for short/intermediate/long term goals.

Blahh… spending a lifetime planning for a lifetime… the world is ending in 2012 anyway. lol Roth IRA and swing trading ETFs and high beta equities seems good too…

The show is great, 2 episodes in and I’m hooked like a crack fiend looking for my next fix. Mark Wahlberg does it again with another (potentially) awesome series to top his Entourage run. About two 20something Brooklyn guys trying to find a hustle to make that dollar. Their first run at printing skateboard decks for a pro skater turned out to be a flop and now they’re going to try to make it big by starting a premium denim line Crisp. Ben and Cam have a long journey ahead and I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.

February Is Not For Lovers

So many holidays jammed packed in February, it’s a great excuse to see the family and have some good times! Lunar calender New Years just passed, so did Valentines Day, Presidents Day, Groundhog Day, Mardi Gras, LENT and all of the Church’s holy days of obligation, and so much more to come.

More French than a fry!

I took Spanish in high school and college. The extent of my French studies is well… limited. I had a small English/French translation booklet that I used on my travels to France as an adolescent. It taught me simply phrases such as ”bonjour, comment allez-vou?” and “excuse moi, ou es la gare? merci!” haha ahh what fun it was.
